Is Black Mould More Dangerous Than Other Moulds?

Not necessarily, there are many types of different moulds. Many people want to know if they have black mould in their homes because this is the mould commonly associated with water damage and poor indoor air quality. In terms of the cleanup process, we generally treat the mould clean up service the same as other inside moulds.

Black Mould Clean up Procedure

Our general black mould clean up procedure includes:

  1. Assessment — We assess the extent of the damage and create a scope on the initial visit. Sometimes we will do mould testing to help establish the source of the problem and find the extent of the damage.
  2. Containment & Filtration — The black mould will be contained to the affected area, this is important as we do not want cross-contamination of other areas during the black mould cleaning process. We will go ahead and install HEPA filters to also filter out the mould spores in the area.
  3. Mould Removal — We will follow the IICRC S520 standards to remove the mould. This includes the complete removal of porous items including affected plasterboards and carpets. We will also clean hard surfaces and structural components
  4. Post Remediation Testing — After, we will do a post mould test to confirm the mould was removed successfully.

We will contain the black mould to the affected location of the property.
